Experiment 10 - The Current Divider

Quite analogous to the voltage divider, which you had obtained from a series circuit of resistors, can you use the parallel circuit to divide currents.

By changing resistors with different resistances values in a parallel circuit, you can divide the current in any desired ratio.

In the shown circuit flows a total current of 13 mA...

  • Through the resistor R1 (2.2 kΩ) flows a current of 4 mA.
  • Through the resistor R2 (1 kΩ) flows a current of 9 mA.

Power dividers are widely used in measuring instruments.
