Thyristors are semiconductor devices. In the initial state non-conductive, they can be turned on and off by an electric current on and off. This results in numerous applications for thyristors. You find them in, among others, vacuum cleaners, hand mixers, dimmer lighting controls and overvoltage protection circuits.
